Carley Recipient of 2016 ASCE “Service to the People” Award

On Tuesday, October 19, 2016, Charles Carley received the “Service to the People” Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers’ Central New Jersey Branch. The award recognizes individuals for their service to the general public. Selection is based upon the nominee’s involvement in the planning, design, or construction of the people-serving works of the civil engineering profession.

Accepting the award on her father’s behalf, Katherine Carley expressed Mr. Carley’s deep gratitude for the award, “As an engineer and an elected official, he knows that our society – the quality of our daily lives – depends upon the built environment – our roads & bridges, our water supply, our infrastructure.”

The American Society of Civil Engineers represents more than 150,000 members of the civil engineering profession in 177 countries. Founded in 1852, ASCE is the nation’s oldest engineering society.

ASCE stands at the forefront of a profession that plans, designs, constructs, and operates society’s economic and social engine – the built environment – while protecting and restoring the natural environment.

Through the expertise of its active membership, ASCE is a leading provider of technical and professional conferences and continuing education, the world’s largest publisher of civil engineering content, and an authoritative source for codes and standards that protect the public.
