The South Brunswick Township Council has wrapped up the municipal budget for 2012.
“I’m happy to report that, for the second consecutive year, we’ve kept the municipal-purposes portion of the property tax rate flat – no increase,” said Councilman Joe Camarota.
“We had our challenges, sure, but it is important to us to keep our part of the property tax stable – and that means no increases,” Camarota continued.
The budget was brought into line despite decreased revenues attributed to tax appeals.
“The process was difficult at times, and over the years we’ve had to cut the municipal workforce, both through attrition and layoffs. But it is important that we keep our part of the property tax stable,” added Councilman Charlie Carley.
Municipal spending for the 2012 budget year continues its downward trend. 2012 discretionary appropriations are some $2M less than those budgeted in 2009 (from $45.2M to $43.2M).
